The Nick Wilson Charitable Group was founded in 2005 by Nick Wilson’s family, whose hope was to help other families like their own, traveling the unknown and tumultuous path through childhood cancer treatment and bone marrow transplantation.  Having faced their worst nightmare in 2001 when Nick passed away at the tender age of three, the Metz/Wilson Family focused their energies on what would help families like them, specifically what wasn’t already being addressed in the community.

Despite adequate health insurance, trying to make ends meet with the plethora of other expenses that arose while Nick was undergoing treatment seemed a cruel reality of this dreadful experience. 

As a result, NWCG’s mission was born—to provide compassionate financial support to families with children undergoing cancer treatment and blood and marrow transplantation at the hospital where Nick received his treatment – Doernbecher Children’s Hospital here in Portland.
